Plasma accelerators focus a very powerful pulse of laser light into a plasma to excite a wakefield. High energy laser plasma wakefield acceleration offers the potential to build high performance particle accelerators of much smaller size.
STI has developed a novel capillary discharge device to produce a tailored plasma to accelerate the electrons. Our density-customized capillary discharge (DC2 Discharge) incorporates significant capabilities absent in current capillary discharge designs. STI is working with plasma accelerator researchers at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) to demonstrate the DC2 Discharge.
